Once Upon a Frame

Through Shadows by Todd Carpenter, a series of black and white paintings that make the familiar abstract and the abstract familiar Todd uses black and white paint, and his training as a scientist, to create paintings that invoke landscapes as a singular concept rather than as a particular place. Through the play of shadow and light, he invites the viewer to take a leap of imagination, whether into their own past experience or a fantastical inner world, where his simplified abstractions generate an emotional and imaginative response, a sense of being in a space we call landscape.

Paul Kauffman is a Southern California-based fine artist whose work explores the dynamic interplay between wild energy and serene grounding. His formative years were uniquely shaped by contrasting experiences, studying for six years in a Catholic seminary and spending summers working with his family’s carnival, a duality that deeply influences his artistic vision, as he seeks to balance the sacred and the profane. Kauffman‘s work invites viewers into a contemplative space, reflecting his journey of harmonizing contrasting forces through expressive brushstrokes and layered compositions. He says "my paintings represent wild energy and untamed brushstrokes searching for a calm place to regroup". WE at Once Upon a Frame are thrilled to exhibit this body of work by Paul Kauffman and we believe you will be inspired by it. We hope to see you at the reception.
